GLBEXPORT / GLBEXPORTBLOCK

GLBEXPORT exports the 3D geometry of your drawing to a GLB file, a standard 3D model file that many viewers and 3D programs can open. GLBEXPORTBLOCK exports the blocks you select as separate GLB files, one per block type, together with a placement file that records where each block sits in the drawing. Use GLBEXPORT to get the whole scene out, and GLBEXPORTBLOCK when you want to reuse each block as its own model.

Starting

  • Type GLBEXPORT or GLBEXPORTBLOCK on the command line.
  • Ribbon: tab SCAD Data / Export.

How it works

GLBEXPORT

  1. Run the command. There is nothing to select: it exports all 3D geometry in model space: solids, 3D surfaces, meshes, 3D faces, regions and hatches, also those inside blocks. Xrefs are not included.
  2. Choose where to save the file in the dialog. The file name starts as the name of your drawing, in the folder of the drawing.
  3. The command reports Exporting 3D geometry to GLB... and then Exported to <file>. With GLBEXPORT cancelled. nothing was written, with No 3D geometry found. there was nothing to export.

GLBEXPORTBLOCK

  1. At Coordinate system [RD/Lambert72]: choose the coordinate system your drawing is in. The default is RD; the command remembers your last choice while BricsCAD is open.
  2. At Select modelspace block inserts or xrefs to export: select the blocks. Only blocks that are directly in model space are used.
  3. If the selection contains xrefs you are asked Selection contains xrefs. Export main blocks inside xrefs [Yes/No] <Yes>:.
  4. Choose where to save the placement file in the dialog (default name placements.json). The GLB files are written to the same folder.
  5. Every unique block gets one GLB file. Blocks inside other blocks are exported as their own GLB files as well, so each part is stored once however often it is used.
  6. The command reports GLBEXPORTBLOCK exported N unique GLB(s), M placement(s).

Settings

  • Objects on layers that are switched off or frozen are not exported.
  • The model is written in metres. The drawing units (INSUNITS) set the conversion; if they are not set, the command assumes millimetres.
  • GLBEXPORTBLOCK also includes loose lines and curves inside the blocks, as lines. GLBEXPORT leaves loose curves out.
