LAYOUTOVERVIEW

LAYOUTOVERVIEW draws red rectangles on a layout that show which area the viewports of other layouts cover. This gives you an overview sheet (a sheet index plan) that shows at a glance how the separate drawing sheets fit together on the site. You choose which viewports take part and in which viewport the rectangles are drawn.

Starting

Type LAYOUTOVERVIEW on the command line, or use the button in the ribbon:

  • SCAD Draw / View tab, Viewports / Plot panel (LAYOUTOVERVIEW)

To refresh existing rectangles there is also a separate LAYOUTOVERVIEWSYNC button in the same panel.

How it works

  1. Go to the layout that should carry the overview, with paperspace active.
  2. Type LAYOUTOVERVIEW. A Layout Overview window opens with the text Select viewports to show on the overview:. It lists the viewports of all layouts. If a layout has several viewports, the layout name is shown as a header with VP 1, VP 2 and so on below it. Tick the viewports you want to show. Ticking a header selects all viewports of that layout.
    • Select all and Clear select everything or nothing.
    • Sync existing refreshes the existing rectangles (see below).
  3. Click OK. Without a selection you get the message Select at least one viewport.
  4. The command asks: Select destination viewport (where rectangles will be drawn):. Click the viewport in which the rectangles should be drawn. Any other object gives Not a viewport.
  5. The command switches to the layout of that viewport and draws a red rectangle for each chosen viewport, labelled with the layout name (for layouts with several viewports Layoutname — VP n). The rectangle follows the area of the source viewport, even if that viewport is rotated.
  6. The command reports Layout overview: N rectangle(s) drawn on 'layout'.

Options

ButtonWhat it does
Select allTicks all viewports.
ClearClears all ticks.
Sync existingRefreshes all existing overview rectangles in all layouts with the current state of the viewports. You do not need to choose viewports.

Updating with sync

If you later move, zoom or rotate a viewport, the rectangles no longer match. Click Sync existing in the window, or type LAYOUTOVERVIEWSYNC. All overviews in the drawing are redrawn from the current viewports. If no overview has been made yet, the command reports No overview rectangles found to sync.
