SCEXTRUDE
SCEXTRUDE extrudes 2D curves (polylines, circles, etc.) into 3D solids. The direction is the curve normal by default, so a curve in the XY plane is extruded up or down. You can preselect several curves at once; the command remembers the last distance and direction used.
Starting
Type SCEXTRUDE on the command line, or use the button in the ribbon on the SCAD Draw / View tab, Mesh / Solids panel.
How it works
- Preselect one or more curves, or pick one when the command asks:
Select curve to extrude:. Objects that are not curves are rejected (Entity must be a curve.). - The command asks
First point or distance:. You have three ways to answer:- Type a distance: type a number. If you have extruded before, the previous direction is used with the new distance; otherwise the curve normal (or Z if the curve is not planar).
- Enter: repeats the previous distance and direction (only after an earlier extrusion).
- Click two points: click a first point, then the command asks
Second point:. The distance between the points is the extrusion height.
- If the distance between the two points has more than one component (dX, dY, dZ), the command shows
Distance:with the values per axis and asksUse distance. Choose which distance to use (seeOptions). The extrusion follows the curve normal. - A 3D solid is created for each selected curve in the current colour, and the command reports
Extruded distance: .... The original curve stays in the drawing.
If the two points are identical, the command reports Points are identical. Cannot extrude. A distance of 0 or invalid input gives Invalid distance.
Options
At the Use distance prompt (only after picking two points):
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
Real | Uses the full distance between the two points (default). |
X | Uses only the difference in X. |
Y | Uses only the difference in Y. |
Z | Uses only the difference in Z. |
Only the axes in which the points differ are offered. If the points differ in just one direction, nothing is asked.
