SCADDATTRIBUTES

SCADDATTRIBUTES adds attributes to blocks that are already in the drawing. You enter the names (tags) of the attributes, and the command adds them to the block definition and immediately gives every copy of the block an empty value for those attributes. You don’t have to explode or re-insert the blocks.

Starting

Type SCADDATTRIBUTES on the command line.

How it works

  1. Preselect the blocks, or pick them when the command asks. Only block references (inserts) are accepted.
  2. The Add Attributes to Blocks window opens. Type a tag in the field and click Add or press Enter. Repeat for every tag you want to add. Tags are automatically converted to uppercase.
  3. To remove a tag again, click the - next to the tag, or select tags in the list and click Remove or press Delete.
  4. Leave Invisible attributes on if the attributes should not be visible in the drawing (default on), or switch it off.
  5. Click OK. The command reports the result, for example Added N attribute(s) to N block definition(s), N reference(s) updated.

If a tag already exists in the block, it is not added again. The new attributes get an empty value and sit at the insertion point of the block; fill them in afterwards with SCTEXT or through the properties, for example.

Settings

SettingWhat it does
Invisible attributesOn by default. Makes the new attributes invisible.
Tag historyPreviously used tags (up to 30) are in the drop-down list of the tag field, so you don’t have to type them again.
