SCREPLACE

SCREPLACE replaces blocks in the drawing with another block, from one window where you choose what is kept and how you want to replace. Only the chosen blocks are replaced; the block definition itself stays intact. The REPLACE command is the quick variant: the same settings, but without a window.

Starting

Type SCREPLACE on the command line, or use the button in the ribbon on the SCAD Core tab, Blocks panel. If you preselected blocks, they are offered in the window under Selected Blocks.

How it works

  1. Optionally preselect the blocks you want to replace.
  2. The Replace Blocks window opens. Under Keep from old block, tick what the new block should take over from the old one (see Settings).
  3. Choose how to replace:
ButtonWhat it does
All InstancesYou pick a block: Select a block whose type you want to replace. Then you pick the new block: Select the block to replace '<name>' with. All blocks with that name in the drawing are replaced, also in layouts and inside other blocks.
One BlockYou pick the single block: Select the block to replace, and then the new block: Select the replacement block.
Selected BlocksReplaces several blocks at once. If blocks were preselected, (N selected) is shown after the button and they are used. Otherwise you choose them: Select blocks to replace. Then you pick the new block: Select the replacement block.
From Library…Opens SCADLIB (title SCADLIB — Select replacement block). Choose the new block there. Then the command asks: Select block you want to replace. All blocks with the name of the picked block are replaced.
  1. If the replacement block has the same name as the old one, the command reports Cannot replace block with itself for All Instances and One Block. With Selected Blocks only the replacement block itself is skipped (Skipped the replacement block itself); other blocks with the same name are replaced.

Blocks on a locked layer are skipped.

Settings

The four choices under Keep from old block are remembered for next time, and also apply to REPLACE.

SettingDefaultWhat it does
Keep scaleonThe new block gets the scale of the old block (including any mirroring). Off: the new block gets scale 1.
Keep mirroronA mirrored old block gives a mirrored new block. This only matters when Keep scale is off; with Keep scale on the mirroring is always taken over.
Keep layer and appearanceonThe new block gets the layer and appearance properties (such as colour) of the old block. Off: the new block gets the layer of the replacement block.
Keep attribute valuesoffAttributes with the same tag get the value from the old block. Off: the new block gets the default values; with Selected Blocks the values of the replacement block you picked.

Position and rotation of the old block are always kept.
